The Chautauqua symphony and Uriel Segal certainly knew this music, and knew how to make it convey excitement and beauty. ... Conductor Segal was triumphant here - wonderfully in command of a dazzling range of dynamic effects, pulling and pushing tempi for the maximum of expression without afflicting the proportions of the work, and polishing sonorities to a full luster. ... Perhaps the audience was spellbound, or perhaps there was simply a reluctance to let this concert or this season to end.
